Join us in Celebrating the Release of Emotionally Focused Therapy for Trauma

Book Launch Event – Emotionally Focused Therapy for Trauma

Join us in-person or online on January 8th, 2026 as the EFT community gathers to celebrate the release of Sue Johnson and Leanne Campbell’s new book and its insights into attachment, emotion, and experiential trauma healing.

This evening will feature reflections from Leanne, Gail Palmer, Mario Mikulincer, George Faller, Jim Furrow, David Fairweather, and Sue herself, followed by a Q&A period. Attendees will have the opportunity to gather around the themes of EFT and trauma as we celebrate the launch of the book and the loving, thoughtful work Sue and Leanne poured into bringing it to life. As part of the program, select video clips of Sue reflecting on these themes will be shared— offering our community a meaningful opportunity to hear from her once again. Light hors d’oeuvres and drinks will be served for in-person guests. For those joining from afar, both the live broadcast and a full recording of the presentations will be available.

About the Authors

Sue Johnson, EdD

Sue Johnson, EdD, was Professor Emeritus of Clinical Psychology at the University of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada; Distinguished Research Professor in the Marriage and Family Therapy Program at Alliant International University in San Diego; and Director of the International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy. “Dr. Sue” was the pioneering innovator of emotionally focused therapy (EFT). Her seminal contributions to couple therapy have been recognized with the Family Psychologist of the Year Award from Division 43 of the American Psychological Association and the Outstanding Contribution to Marriage and Family Therapy Award from the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. She was most proud of receiving the Order of Canada, one of the country’s highest civilian honors. Sue passed away in April, 2024.

Leanne Campbell, PhD

Leanne Campbell, PhD, is co-developer of Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT) and co-author with Susan Johnson of the first basic EFIT text, A Primer for Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT): Cultivating Growth and Fitness in Every Client (Routledge, 2022), and Emotionally Focused Therapy for Trauma (Guilford, 2026). She is a Registered Psychologist in the province of British Columbia, an executive board member of the International Center for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy (ICEEFT), and an international speaker, writer, trainer, and co-author of various EFT-related educational programs and materials. She also contributed to the second edition of Becoming an Emotionally Focused Therapist: The Workbook (Routledge, 2022) with her insights surrounding the application of EFT in working with trauma both individually and relationally (in EFIT and EFCT). In addition to providing psychological services to hundreds of individuals, couples, and families over the past three decades, Dr. Campbell provides trainings in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) to professionals around the globe with a primary focus in the areas of loss and trauma.

A Breakthrough Resource for Treating Trauma Through Attachment and Emotion

Emotionally Focused Therapy for Trauma integrates attachment science, experiential techniques, and the structured, evidence-based power of EFT to help therapists:

  • Understand trauma’s impact on emotional processing and relational bonds
  • Rebuild safety and secure connection—within the self and with others
  • Use experiential interventions to access and transform emotional responses
  • Restore agency, coherence, and connection after trauma
  • Support couples, individuals, and families navigating trauma histories

This is a must-have resource for clinicians working with trauma, attachment injuries, or complex relational patterns.

About the Book

This innovative clinician’s guide shows how emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is ideally suited to target core elements of recovery from common impacts of chronic, cumulative, or acute trauma. EFT pioneer Susan M. Johnson and her collaborator and leading EFT trainer T. Leanne Campbell provide a clear intervention framework and numerous vivid clinical examples illustrating their attachment-informed, experiential approach. Using dance—in particular, the tango—as a metaphor for what happens in session, the book takes therapists move by move through the three stages of EFT with individuals or couples affected by the echoes of trauma. Chapters conclude with reflection questions, learning exercises, and recaps of key ideas, enhancing the volume’s practical utility
